Thanks to Tom Thatcher for letting me know about this conference, and to Jim West for announcing it in  his blog too, and for this Scribd version of the notice, which I am borrowing here:

How fortuitous.

I've been meaning to ask you, what the scholarly opinion is on Thomas Brodie's suggestions that John is 'based' on Mark and Ephesians (and less controversially, I suppose, the Pentateuch)?

Ironically, I didn't intend to read Brodie, since I only learnt of him due to the recent brouhahah, which I guess made him more or less persona non grata. But reading Joel Watts and Adam Winn, I had to follow the references.

I can see why he's accused of paralellomania, but I guess I not sufficiently conversant with the Bible to judge, if there's anything there or not.

Something else entirely: Can you recommend any good works on 1 Clement?

Too bad the coming fall semester is so overcrowded. Both Dodd's and Brown's works have functioned as surrogate Doktorvaters over the years, and still do. Will have to miss this and the SBL too!
